This is the Dartford Folk Club website editor's selection of links to "folk" and Dartford related sites that have not been put on other pages of this site.
Please note that I do not create links to sites that disable the 'back to' button on web browsers (including IE)!
The FolkMob
FolkMob is a club that meets every Wednesday upstairs at the Tudor Barn, Well Hall Road, LONDON SE9. All players and singers are welcome. You don't have to be folk - they love all music. They have some great regular performers, but also encourage newcomers and beginners to come along and perform in front of a friendly, sympathetic crowd.
Real UK Music is a resource for live music clubs, folk clubs, concert venues, music festivals, performers, recording and rehearsal studios and music teachers and also provides internet audio streaming.
Folk music from across the river in Essex, the very successful The FaB Club meet every Sunday in Grays.
A provider of music, song, and dance acts from the Celtic music world, plus a little blues and some rockie-blues.
A useful resource for most things (including folk music) that are happening in Dartford.
A useful resource for most "folk" things that are happening in Kent.
Faversham Folk Club
On the north coast of Kent is a town of beer and hops. This excellent acoustic ( NO P.A. !) club meets in the Chimney Boy - a 2 minute walk from the railway station! A number of the attendees from this club regularly visit Dartford and our members often reciprocate.
String Whistle
Fancy the Dartford website editor forgetting to create a link to club resident Rob and his musical partner Dave's website ! String Whistle were formed as a result of meeting in the last century at the club. A legend in their own lunch break, you can pay them to play and sing for you. If you pay them double, they'll go and play somewhere else. They've emptied pubs, village halls, pint pots, chamber pots on the first bar of a song. If you visit this site you can find out exactly when and where they are playing and arrange your holidays to be elsewhere ! But seriously - great friends of the club and each other, they will give you a good time ! Keep on trekkin' !
Barbie's LinksHeavily into nostalgia and a frequent visitor to folk clubs and festivals in the 70s, Barbie decided to put together this website as a tribute to the old days. There are plenty of links to the sites of some familiar people from the 70s. You can discover what they're doing now, or find an answer to the question you're dying to ask; "have they aged more than me?!"
The Living Tradition
The site of the excellent magazine of the same name. Links up with their very efficient CD mailorder service - The Listening Post. The emphasis is on Scottish music.
Folk & Roots
A site by "fans" of Folk Music for Fans of Folk Music
John Scott Cree
Believe it or not I have seen and spoken to this chap plenty of times in a Southern canteena but NEVER seen him sing or play! Now there's an enigma for you! He writes songs of unrequieted love at bus stops among other down to earth subjects!
EFN Magazine - Essex resources guide - a comprehensive guide to folk related sites in Essex and East London. Which only goes to prove that there is something cultural going on in that dark county north of the River! :-)
The South Folk Music Network
Unfortunately, due to ill health Lisa has had to pull the plug on this excellent site. It had over 35,000 hits during a relatively short activation. We are all sorry to see it go and wish a speedy return to Lisa's good health. Thankyou !
The Mick Jagger Centre - Dartford
Named after a famous ex-resident of Dartford, this venue has had a large number of "folk" acts including names such as Carthy and Waterson, All About Eve, Ralph McTell and Show of Hands. And there are mre to come they tell me.........!!!
Broadstairs Folk Week
A festival on the eastern tip of Kent taking place every August. Something musical happening somewhere in the town all week!
National Harmonica League
Jim the harmonica player , a member of one of the folk club's resident bands - The Dartford Ramblers - is a member of this. They have had two successful "hoolie" events held at the Working Men's Club.
Folk Icons
Contains many links to artists who have become folk Megastars. Includes music clips. Run by Steve Sheldon who often turns up at Dartford AND also plays cricket with Richard Thompson !!!
